I bought this particular Opus feeder on Amazon, Seven Years ago. It is amazing that the feeder not only looks great but also still is operating like new. Opus Company is the most cooperative manufacturer and they stand behind all their products. I called them when an aggressive squirrel ate through the squirrel guard in about six months, only because I had it put it up with too large of rope. Though it was my fault, they replaced the top and sent it out to my house immediately 100% free! Over the years, I have had questions about birds and feeders and they are quick to answer them. They know the animals that eat out of their products! Opus makes more than Bird Feeders, they make many different garden products and Amazon is their top seller of those goods. That is who they always suggest you shop through Amazon because as they will tell you "Amazon.com has the absolute lowest price on all" these quality products. I now own seven Opus Feeder and other Opus Garden Products; all are in new shape with heavy use in the adverse weather of Kansas! Yes Dorothy Kansas! Let us not forget to shop for these at Amazon.com, but go to http://www.opususa.com and look over the entire line of their products and get the best advice on outside birding and other great information.

These are fine if you're in an area with small birds, no squirrels, and.......no rain. The main problem is the bottom is held in place onto each of the 3 tubes ONLY by two tiny fragile "clips" on only about 2mm in size! As long as there is no weight on the bottom, you're fine. With large birds and huge doves, that gets to be a LOT of weight, many pounds on the bottom of the feeder which it cannot take over time. Yes, squirrels STILL do get on it which make it even worse (they are VERY smart, and even with sunflower seeds put out all over the place, they still INSIST on trying to get a few seeds out of the feeders!) :-) The other issue which adds to this problem is rain. As soon as bird seed gets wet, it sprouts in a matter of hours and unless you clean the feeder out after EVERY rain, or humid night, the seed will indeed grow and grow on the bottom eventually forcing, "shoving" the bottom FROM the 3 tubes--again due to the undersized poorly designed clips. This problem could SO EASILY be fixed by simply using either a larger retention/clipping mechanism on the bottom, or "studs" of some kind to which the tubes can connect THROUGH the bottom portion. But, for some reason the manufacturer refuses to do this. Small birds, no squirrels or AWAY from squirrels, and little rain and low humidity; the feeders are fine.

--This camera is advertised for its lapse-time (automatic spaced intervals between exposures) capability. Its name (PlantCam) could give the impression that its only use is for seeing a bud, flower, plant or garden grow "high speed," compressing hours, days, or weeks into a few minutes. But it can be used with delight in many other nature-situations with satisfaction, showing "sped-up replay" in the motions of clouds, shadows, animal intra-flock associations, indoor flower turning, snow melting, and even things like recording the development of a drawing, construction, what people mostly look at in a store window, and on and on. The camera works fine with variable time selections, a laser pointer for down to 11 inch close-up work, a view finder for distant projects, several levels of resolution, date-time imprint and more. I have viewed the picture results with Windows Picture Manager, finding the filmstrip view nice for speeding through the sequence. In Windows Movie Maker I can move what might be hundreds of pictures to its story board and play the changes as a sort of movie. I also have the company's BirdCam and get incredible bird closeups. The cameras are simple to operate with almost intuitive control layout, but I recommend you work through the carefully written and adequate manual with camera in hand several times. For a number of times I was overlooking the last step, that is, turn the dial to "auto" before setting the camera on the tripod or ground for its shooting. I am convinced this camera would be great for an adult to use in collaboration with a youngster in discovery activity. I know I have found its pictures excellent and intriging

Very impressed with this - might seem that $80-odd is a bit expensive for a glorified webcam, but it's really a well thought out product. It's properly weatherproofed, really easy to use, and comes with various bungees and stand attachments so you can properly mount it for long periods of time (don't want it moving!) Lots of attention to detail; the menus are simple, the picture quality is fine, you have a decent range of time intervals, SD cards work without hassle. You don't want something unreliable or high-maintenance, and you do want something solidly mounted and weatherproof. This fits the bill. Definitely recommended if you want time-lapse footage of... anything.

I used this feeder last season, and now I am getting a second one to hang nearby. It's the best feeder I've ever used (and I think I've tried them all!) for this reason: it is a cinch to clean. The metal flowers are part of the metal base, which screws off easily. You just wash and go! There are no weird angles to try and get a brush into, or thick plastic flowers that attract black gunk and won't let it go. And the hummers love it! If you have to choose one feeder this season, this is the one I recommend.

I was very pleased with this hummingbird feeder. It has the traditional style, without the traditional red and yellow colors. What did surprise me was the size. It was probably just me not paying attention to the description, but it was much larger than I expected. One thing worth mentioning is that when it arrived, it wasn't level. So nectar was leaking out. The reason it wasn't level is because of the way the wire wraps around the glass (to where it hooks at the top). It has to wrap perfectly and end just at the right angle for it to hang level. Once I adjusted this (just carefully bent the wire until it looked level), it stopped dripping. I have three feeders and this is my favorite - and I get lots of compliments on it.

This is a great feeder no doubt. It is the easiest to clean and refill that I've seen. And the bright red makes the hummers go crazy. Mine have become more territorial, and they feed more often now. Initially I had some concerns that the feeder would need to be almost completely full in order for the hummers to be able to extract any nectar (the feeder is rather deep). Turns out the little guys have pretty long tongues, so they can reach far into the feeder, even when it is close to being empty. Can't beat the lifetime guarantee. My only gripe is that small ants can still get inside even with the nectar guard tips in place. In my case, the ants are pretty bad, even more so than with my last feeder which had basically no protection at all.

I've been using this Aspects Hummzinger Ultra (as well as the Excel) since August '06. In my opinion, these Hummzinger feeders are the best, and I've tried over a dozen others. The Hummzinger feeders are a breeze to fill, hang, and clean; no bottle brush necessary! And the EASY recipe for the best hummingbird nectar is printed on the under-side of the feeder. How convenient is that? In addition, they have perches for the hummers to rest on while feeding, so that they don't burn up all the calories they're trying to consume while hovering around the feeder. I love the brass hanging rod; it prevents the feeder from tilting and dripping when the birds all sit on one side of it. These are the ONLY feeders I've ever had where the hummers will perch and feed together in groups. I frequently see 3 to 6 birds on my feeders at once since I started using using the Hummzingers; this never happened even with the largest of the other feeders I've tried. Could be coincidental, but... The feeder can either be hung from its included hook or mounted on a garden stake/post. When hanging, these feeders are very stable in the wind compared to others, so they don't drip. And the ant moat really does keep ants out of the nectar when the feeder is hanging! (I don't think it would help as much if the feeder was mounted on a post.) Best of all, contrary to what some others have written, the hummingbirds around here (the San Francisco Bay area) seem to LOVE these feeders. I'm purchasing several as gifts.

This is truly a squirrel proof feeder. I have two of these. Only complaint is that the spring mechanism broke on one of them while cleaning and it's toast. Just treat it gently when cleaning. I am getting another one since it's the only feeder I have seen that keeps squirrels off. As for the critters swinging the feeder around to disperse seeds, this is a very small "squirrel tax" to pay. Put some seed on the ground for our bushy tailed friends and be thankful they are not ON the feeder.

We have a lot of critters in our backyard so when I found this and read the reviews, it made sense to give it a try. Not only is it squirrel proof but it can also withstand rough treatment from rogue raccoons! Yes, those furry little guys detached it from the tree, emptied it out and carried it down to the creek where it lay submerged for several days. Cleaned it out and it is as good as new! Highly recommended-I now have it locked to the tree branch and no more problems from raccoons!

This is one of 7 feeders that I have at my home NOTHING relaxes me and perks me up more than seeing all the colorful birds around my home. When I saw this one at it's incredible price, I had to give it a shot. It mounted to the window in about 30 seconds-I filled it with finch food, and had a purple finch perched and eating an hour later! What a thrill to be cleaning house, at the computer or relaxing in my recliner, and to be able to look out of our big, bay window and see the goldfinches and other birds perched. NEGATIVES: Perch is a LITTLE on the "flimsy" side, but no one's fallen off yet. Doesn't come with instructions - I could see this being a problem for someone unfamiliar with feeders. Other than that? Good job, once AGAIN, to Garden Song!

This feeder is attractive, easy to use and functional. The only thing I don't like, and maybe this is just my seed, but the birdseed sometimes gets stuck in the openings so I have to go in with my finger to get the birdseed to come out again. Other than that, can't complain.

I bought this bird feeder for my mother as a mother's day gift. As such, the majority of this review is second hand information, although I have had the pleasure of watching birds eating from it on my own a few times. I live in the Northeast, and the few times that I've seen the birdfeeder in action I've seen primarily cardinals and orioles, as well as a small brown bird (I have no idea what type of bird this one was). The birdfeeder is always busy, the birds really seem to love it. My mother said she has also had quite a few blue jays, along with random mixes of other birds. So the birdfeeder is definitely a hit. There is a drawback however. Squirrels readily found the birdfeeder, and for about a month birds were unable to eat out of it as the squirrels would steal everything. There are ways to combat this problem, and after trying a couple of the solutions she found online, my mother hit upon one that worked, which basically consists of hanging the birdfeeder from a long wooden stick by a string, and then extending this stick outward from our deck so that the squirrels only option is to go out on the stick and drop onto the birdfeeder. Apparently, no squirrel is quite this stupid. The squirrel problem, obviously, is not this bird feeder's fault, although if you have a high squirrel population in your area you may want to try one of the anti squirrel bird feeders instead. With that said, this bird feeder is beautiful, very solidly constructed, and does a great job of dispensing the seed. (another reviewer stated that the cracks at the bottom of the feeder which dispense the seed were a bit small, but this has not been a problem for my mother, guess it may be dependent upon what type of bird seed you are using)

I have three of these feeders on my front porch now and am thinking of purchasing three more because they seem to be my hummingbirds' favorite feeders. During the months of August and September each year we have between 70 and 100 hummingbirds at one time coming to 15 different types of feeders hanging on our front porch. The Perky Pet 209 30-oz. feeders always seem to be the ones the birds go for first. I also like them because they are large but easy to handle when filling and easy to clean. Other advantages: glass instead of plastic seems to keep the sugar water fresher longer; bee guards are built in and don't fall out; circular perch stays put and doesn't require adjustment. I've tried all kinds of hummingbird feeders and I think this one is the best.

By A Customer

Customer Buzz

I'm still hunting for the perfect feeder. This feeder meets most of my requirements: 1. Reservoir must be glass, not plastic. Plastic reservoirs get cloudy, always look dirty and seem to breed mold and mildew. Glass is easier to clean - just wash with soapy water. Every couple of times I wash it, I add a couple of drops of bleach to the soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with hot water. I've never had a problem with mold buildup in the corners. 2. Must have a perch for the hummers -they prefer it that way. 3. Must have a decent size reservoir to eliminate the need to fill twice daily. When hummers are not quite as active don't fill this one up all the way. Sometimes it should just be filled 1/4 of the way. Ideally this feeder would have a bottle that is slightly smaller. Perhaps a 24 ounce size bottle that is a bit narrower might be better. But then it might heat up more in the sun and begin the habit of growing mold and mildew. This bottle is highly resistant to mold and mildew if cleaned at least once a week. 4. Must be an inverter type to easily see the food level and to hold an adequate amount of food without the need to refill more than every two or three days. 5. Base must be easy to clean without crevices that you can't get to. This is the area where this feeder fails horribly. You cannot disassemble the base and all you can do is wash and rinse. 6. Design of the feeder should not allow Yellow jackets access to the food. Although they may smell it and try to get to it, they can't with this feeder - they quickly give up and leave the food for the hummers. The liquid level in the base is too far from the feeding ports for the yellow jackets to reach. The other Perky Pet feeder that I have (the 24 oz with the hourglass shape) is too shallow and the yellow jackets take over the feeder in the late summer months. This feeder is a much better design. 7. The plastic base should be of a high quality non-porous plastic. This feeder meets this requirement. 8. The ports should not be some silly design to look like a flower. This one barely meets this requirement. At least the plastic flowers are flush with the base instead of sticking up like some of the really cheap feeders. 9. Ideally the glass bottle should be easily replaceable. This feeder does not meet this requirement. What I would really like to see is a design where you can use a standard mason jar and the feeder would have some type of easily cleanable adapter. Or how about using a standard 1 quart vinegar bottle? I saw one like this once, but wasn't sure if the feeder met my yellow jacket requirements. Happy hunting for your perfect feeder!

This feeder is the best I've had, and I have had a bunch. It has a huge capacity so you don't have to fill it very often. It is almost impossible for squirrels to stand on and if they manage to get a foothold their weight closes the feeding ports so they can't get anything. You can adjust it to exclude large birds such as starlings and grackles. When it needs to be cleaned you just put it in the dishwasher. When an especially crafty squirrel tried to chew it's way in to my feeder I informed Brome about the damage and they sent me a replacement part for free! Squirrel busters have a lifetime warranty against squirrel damage. I have had mine for about 3 years and couldn't be happier with it. If you only have one bird feeder in your life this should be the one.

BY R. Weybright (Rock Island, Illinois)

Customer Buzz

My issue isn't squirrels, it's starlings and grackles. They'll empty a feeder in a day or two and keep the 'desired' birds from feeding. This feeder thwarts these pest birds better than any other feeder or feeder cage that I've tried. The smaller birds have no trouble getting to the seed and we've even had a pair of cardinals feed for the first time in the three years we've been feeding. I'm thoroughly satisfied so far with this item and am buying one for my father and one for my sister. Highly recommended. ----Update---- It does indeed deter squirrels as well, I watched one try again and again to acess this feeder to no avail. However, the local starlings have learned to grasp the cardinal ring and flap enough to partially open the feed ports (clever little buggers). The cardinal ring will be removed to eliminate that issue. The versitility of this feeder is wonderful.
